AERIAL FIGURE 8 OPTICAL CABLES

The cables consist of up to 12 elements stranded around a Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) central member, upjacketed if needed.

The elements are a combination of filled loose tubes (each 12 optical fibres), and solid fillers to give the required fibre count.

The tubes are filled with a synthetic oil based jelly, non-nutritive to fungus, electrically non conductive, homogeneous and free from dirt and foreign matter.

The tubes are stranded using the reverse oscillating lay method.

The cable core interstices are water blocked by means of suitable flooding compound , upon request, by water-swellable materials (dry core).

The core is wrapped with binders/tapes (as required to aid manufacture) and protected by a black polyethylene sheath, which includes a messenger (7x1.2 mm steel strand).
