AERIAL DIELECTRIC SELF-SUPPORTING OPTICAL CABLES (ADSS)

Up to 80 meter span

The cables consist of up to 12 elements stranded around a Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) central member, upjacketed if needed. The elements are a combination of filled loose tubes (each containing 6 or 12 optical fibres), and solid fillers to give the required fibre count. The tubes are filled with a synthetic oil based jelly, non-nutritive to fungus, electrically non conductive, homogeneous and free from dirt and foreign matter. The tubes are stranded using the reverse oscillating lay method.

The cable core interstices are water blocked by means of suitable flooding compound or, upon request, by water-swellable materials (dry core). Additional binders/tapes could be used as required to aid manufacture.

Aramid yarns are applied over the cable core, in order to provide the required tensile strength, followed by a black polyethylene sheath.

Cable elements:

  1. Dielectric central strength member
  2. Optical fibres
  3. Plastic loose tube, jelly filled
  4. Flooding compound
  5. Plastic filler (if any)
  6. Synthetic tape wrapping
  7. Aramid yarns
  8. Outer PE jacket

- Aerial performance: the cables are suitable for aerial installation, with 80 meter span and 1% installation sag. the cables withstand the additional loads generated by wind and ice in the following environmental conditions:

(a) temperature –5°C, wind speed 130 km/hr

(b) temperature –20°C , wind speed 65 km/hr , ice radial thickness 12 mm
